Switching it up a little bit in today’s post with a ‘Do It Yourself’ promotional project for my Self Promo & Marketing class. The goal was to create a product above and beyond a business card or pamphlet for clients or prospective clients to show your appreciation and to strengthen the relations between myself and the client. I went the route of creating a product I could give to wedding couples that shows thought and effort while celebrating their day.

The adventure began at Michael’s craft store and took me to places like Bed, Bath and Beyond; the shopping experience was basically a blur the entire time and I don’t know what came over me but the creative ideas were just flowing and I’m pretty happy with the first product I came up with, I apologize in advance for the image quality.

Ingredients for my DIY project: Wooden crate, paper filling, 2 crystal rocks glasses, his and hers mini liquor bottles (I would suggest finding out what your couple’s favourites are and selecting those for their chest) Chalkboard paint, wedding themed scrapbooking stickers, chalk (Thinner is better, all I could find was sidewalk chalk so the writing wasn’t as nice as it could have been) and ribbon.
The plain box outside before the first coat of chalkboard paint. The outside of the box after it was painted. The wet, painted inside of the chest. After the chest was mostly dry after about coat three I added the paper filling (Which gets everywhere and sticks to EVERYTHING!) to the chest moulding places for the soft drink or mix as well as the liquor bottles and glasses.Running Chalk along the sides then erasing it gives the box a written on look as opposed to just black which I like but it’s easy to overdo so I only did select areas and on the big flat surfaces focused on the middle just as a teacher would with a real chalkboard leaving the edges untouched and clean.
Finally I added some of the scrapbook stickers in places I found appropriate and wrote the couples name and wedding date on the box as personalization.I then tied a bow around the box and there you have it, my finished first attempt at a DIY wedding promo piece! Excited to see how it goes over and I would LOVE to hear your thoughts and feedback so please feel free to leave a comment on what you think and possibly what you’d like to see in the future!

I have been on the NAIT Athletics staff for the past two years now as their Athletics photographer, this role has me at NAIT every weekend from late August until early April and for some reason even though I spend countless hours there throughout the season I don’t post a whole lot about what I shoot at for the unreal Athletics Department.

Last year aside from hosting CCAA Curling Nationals NAIT managed to bring home ACAC gold in both men’s and women’s hockey, this year both teams started their season looking to defend those championships against some stiff competition, Our men are currently still in the hunt but as some of you may know from my final post CCAA Badminton Nationals (If you haven’t read it yet read it HERE!) our women were able to successfully defend their title against the Grant MacEwan Griffins.

While the Ooks seemingly had the game within control almost all the way through a late goal by the Griffins and a very close scare in the finals seconds made for quite an exciting finish. Congrats to the Ooks, they’re some of the coolest people I know I couldn’t think of a better group of people to soak me in champagne… It took me 20 minutes to towel dry my 1DX, thank god for weather proofing!

Cheers,

Welcome back!!

After over 40 hours of shooting this past weekend for Badminton Nationals alone I had A LOT of not so exciting work to catch up on before I could share the third and final day of action!

Below is a selection of images from final play Saturday, NAIT as a part of the ACAC Conference took home 3 National Championships as well as the overall team championship. Badminton never really shines in the athletics spotlight at NAIT, with sports like hockey and basketball it’s not really a huge surprise but it was nice to see NAIT’s hidden gems shine this past weekend, the program’s success and existence is all thanks to their hall of fame caliber coach Jordan Richey.

It’s no surprise that as soon as the Championship was closed I packed up and moved to the arena to capture our women’s team winning ACAC gold in hockey for the second straight year, stay tuned for those pics!

Enjoy,

-Jesse

Day 2 was just as busy as the previous and did not disappoint wen it comes to the action and excitement we saw, including the last two matches in the round robin and semi finals to cap off the night.

Being my first time EVER shooting badminton it’s been great trying out all of the angles and learning as I go along, sitting here doing my absolute best to shake the hangover after last night’s HUGE Edmonton Rush win (WE’RE 8-0!!!) I’m extremely content with how the images are turning out and I can’t wait to capture the excitement of the finals today!

Cheers,
